Located in the heart of the Sandhills, the Hyannis Hotel offers visitors a piece of Nebraska history.  Upon establishment, Hyannis was one of the heaviest cattle shipping points on the Burlington railroad line. The town was also the commercial and social center for a very large area of the sparsely populated western Nebraska. Constructed in 1898, the hotel became a gathering place for people near and far including ranchers who brought their cattle to the railroad for shipment. The hotel has seen many renovations over the years including considerable alterations to the exterior. Though the appearance of the Hyannis Hotel has changed since the era of the town’s early cattle shipping days, much of its historic flavor is still intact.  History is displayed by numerous old photos.

THE BUSINESS:  

The business consists of a hotel, restaurant, dining room, commercial kitchen, bar area, beer garden, and storage areas.  The hotel has 9 rooms plus an apartment with private entrance.  Hyannis is located at the the intersection of State Highways 2 and 61.  Highway 2 is a designated National Sandhills Journey Scenic Byway.  The hotel is located at the intersection of Main Street and Highway 2 with ample parking.  The hotel has a large trade area of about a radius of 60 miles around Hyannis.  The hotel has been the social hub for the local residents and is a popular tourist stop as Highway 2 is the route used by tourists desiring to get off of Interstate 80 and see the “real”  Nebraska.

THE AREA:

Hyannis and Grant County are located in the Sandhills Region of Nebraska that features 400 ft high ridges of rolling hills with valleys holding numerous lakes and hay producing meadows.  The abundant lakes are a result of the amazing underground water reservoir known as the Ogallala Aquifer.   Hyannis is the heart of the deepest saturated depth of the aquifer.  The area has ample recreational opportunites for golf, fishing, hiking, ATV riding, horseback trail rides, and hunting of big game, upland birds, and waterfowl.  Hyannis is 70 miles north of Ogallala, Interstate 80 and Nebraska's largest lake, Lake McConaughy.   Ogallala is 200 miles east of Denver, 170 miles from Cheyenne and 330 miles west of Omaha.  Hyannis is a friendly community that provides most services including grocery store, bank, convenience store, and fully accredited K-12 schools.  The Sandhills Area Chamber of Commerce is headquartered in Hyannis and provides information on businesses, services, and events for Hyannis as well as for the numerous nearby small towns.
